OIL AND WINE


TYPICAL PRODUCTS OF MONEGLIA

Simple, genuine dishes trom land and sea, from fish to vegetable pies, aromatic herbs, virgin olive oil and good wine. The region is above all the land of olive oil and wine. In fact the theory cannot be discarded that the monilia, 'the jewels' that lent their name to the primitive village, were in reality the olive tree and the vine.

Oil from Moneglia is among the most prized in Eastern Liguria and the Olive Oil Show, held on Easter Monday, is the best occasion to try it. Bianco di moneglia is a perfect white wine to accompany fish dishes, but also to drink on its own, very chilled, as an aperitif. It is mostly produced in the hills around San Saturnino and Lemeglio.

This kaleidoscope of Mediterranean cooking finds its own niche in Moneglia where classic ingredients merge with local aromatic herbs.


DOP EASTERN RIVIERA OLIVE OIL

In "A Brief History of Moneglia" written in 1899, we read that "Moneglia was always renowned far its fine, gracious olive groves, which have been cultivated here since the beginning of our era. The town and its surrounding area produce about 10,000 barrels of olive oil."

Extra virgin olive oil produced in Moneglia is of 'controlled and protected origin' or DOP Riviera di Levante and is produced from the Lavagnina, Razzola and Pignola variety of olives. It is yellowish-green in colour, smells of mature fruit and tastes fruity with an initially Sweet but slightly bitter, spicy aftertaste.
